Hello!
Thank you for your interest in my work. I make large scale pottery for both residential and commercial clients. I have been working in clay my whole life, starting in Rochester, NY and now in my new home of Asheville, NC. I started out making dinnerware but in 2019, after working production for other artists and an apprenticeship at The Village Potters Clay Center where I first learned to throw big, I began putting more of my focus into big vessels.
To me, monolithic pots ground the space they sit in, evoking moments of quiet and calm solitude. I look forward to the opportunity to create my art for spaces big and small.
The Pots
All of my in-house designs are made in a durable, warm, red, terracotta clay suitable for indoors or out. Custom orders, however, can be made in a variety of clays and glazes to capture the exact feeling you want for your space. All pieces can be cleaned easily with water, soap, and a soft bristled brush, but for natural terracotta left outdoors, you may not want to wash it. You can allow your terracotta to age naturally over the years to achieve a beautiful patina of whites, greens, and blues.
The Process
Every piece begins with a consideration of where it will some day live. I think about the shape and movement of the location and its elements and reflect that in the final work, creating a focal point and resting place for the viewers attention.
My studio and process are simple. I use a small number of tools and traditional techniques to create my work which allows me to stay focused on each piece as I make it.
In 2020 I had the honor of receiving the awards for both the Craft and Overall Winner of the Our State Magazine Made in NC awards. You can see the full article here .
